May 30: 1 Year Mark

May 30th is a significant milestone in my life.  It marks the completion of my first year on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Time has flown by this year.  As my first year comes to a close, I've been reflecting on some of the conversations I've had this past year.  I've been asked so many questions & had many talks with various family, friends, donors, & strangers.  Some are serious, some are funny.  Overall, they all reflect what type of year I've had.  Here are just a few of the questions I've encountered...
  • When are you going to graduate? I've actually already graduated...from college...last year... What are you going to do now that you're done with school? I'm working full-time for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Montgomery County, Maryland.
  • Is this a permanent situation? I'd like to believe so.  I plan on working for FCA as long as God calls me. Are you going to get a raise anytime soon? I'm not sure.  It depends on how much I can raise on a monthly basis.  But if you join as one of my monthly supporters, I'll be that much closer to getting one... When will you get a promotion? I don't think so.  I like the position I'm in & already have so much going on with being an Area Representative.  A promotion would be overwhelming!
  • How has this year on staff been? It's been amazing! But it's flown by so fast.  So much has happened that I can't wait to see what God has in store next! What's it like to be in ministry? It's definitely different every day, which is something that I love.  It's really helped me grow in my faith & as a leader.
  • How did you get involved with FCA? I was introduced to FCA in middle school through their summer camps.  Then, I volunteered in high school at Power Camp & interned with them for 3 summers through college.  During my last year of college, I started raising support & came on staff on June 1 of 2011. Will you continue being on staff? I plan on being on staff for as long as God calls me.  However, I don't foresee changing careers anytime soon.
  • What are your plans once this year is up? I plan on continuing to serve & work for the FCA ministry. Do you plan on going to grad school? No, I don't see myself going back to school anytime soon.
  • Do your parents approve of your job? Yes, they do.  They are proud of me for obeying God's calling & fully support myself & the FCA ministry. Do your other relatives/family support what you do? It's hard to say.  I would say some fully support me in what I do while others think I'm doing a good thing by working for a non-profit.  Either way, they are my family & I love them, regardless if they approve or not.
  • Do you know Jeremy Lin or Tim Tebow? No, sorry, I don't know either of them personally. Can you get either of them to speak at our school/event/church? No, I honestly have no connections to them.  Sorry!
God has truly blessed me with a job that I love & the future of a career that would provide joy & fulfillment.  I look forward to work on a daily basis & get excited when new opportunities arise.  I'm honestly content with where God has placed me & cannot wait to see what He has in store for me & FCA, as a ministry & specifically here in Montgomery County.

If you're interested in supporting FCA, you can do so by...

    • If you'd like to donate directly to myself (Hannah Cheung), you can type my name into the desired area of use.
    • If you'd like to donate directly to Lisa Timm & the MOCO FCA ministry, you can leave that area blank.
